Mobile Mini Golf for Fundraisers, Weddings & Corporate Events — Flint & Genesee County, MI

Most people who Google "mini golf rental cost" expect a flat number. The honest answer is more interesting — and probably more useful — because the real question isn't "what's the price tag," it's "how do I get the most fun for the money at my event."

We just brought a full 18-hole portable mini golf course into our Mini Golf lineup at The Dunk Tank Company, and we've been running it at events around Genesee and Lapeer Counties since the off-season ended. Here's everything we've learned about renting a mobile mini golf course in mid-Michigan — including the parts most rental companies won't say out loud.

The Short Answer: $50 Per Hole

Our portable mini golf rents at $50 per hole for our standard holes and $66 per hole for our specialty holes (the trickier, more uniquely designed ones). We've intentionally priced it this way instead of locking you into a flat "9-hole" or "18-hole" rate, because not every event needs the same thing.

A few quick rules of the road:

  • Three-hole minimum for delivery. We bring it to you, set it up, and pick it up.
  • One-hole pickup option. If you only need a single hole — say, for a ribbon cutting or a chamber booth — you can swing by our shop and pick one up for $50. Most rental companies don't offer this. We do.
  • Mix and match. Want six standard holes and three specialty holes? Done. You're not forced into a one-size-fits-all package.

So a 9-hole setup with all standard holes is $450. An 18-hole setup is $900. Add specialty holes and the math shifts up. Sponsorship and customization add-ons can offset cost — or even turn the rental into a profit center if you're a fundraiser.

What You're Actually Getting

Each hole is a 2-foot by 8-foot aluminum unit with real turf and built-in LED lighting. They're built to last — aluminum, not plywood that warps after a few rentals — and they look sharp. Each unit handles 1–2 players at a time and takes about 2–5 minutes per hole depending on whether you've got experienced putters or a group of seven-year-olds.

  • Indoor or outdoor. Grass, concrete, gym floor, stamped patio — it all works. We prefer flat ground over slopes, because if everything keeps rolling left the game stops being fun.
  • No power required for single-day events. The LED lights run on batteries. For multi-day rentals we'll leave chargers on site.
  • No stakes, no anchoring. Free-standing units. The only time we need to stake anything is if you've added one of our tents.
  • Black light or standard light. The course glows in the dark for evening events.
  • Two putter sizes — junior and adult. Bring your own putter if you're a serious golfer; we won't be offended.

Events Where Mobile Mini Golf Shines

We've done this at a ribbon cutting for Café Brûlée in Swartz Creek where the offer was simple: hit a hole-in-one and win a free coffee at a future visit. The whole staff came out to try it. It made for great content for both businesses, and Café Brûlée got a sponsorship moment without writing a check — they just covered one hole and turned it into a marketing activation.

That's the pattern. Mini golf works almost anywhere people gather and want something to do that isn't just standing around with a drink:

  • Fundraisers — PTOs, churches, nonprofits (we'll do the math on this in a second)
  • Corporate events — team building, summer picnics, holiday parties indoors
  • Grad parties and open houses
  • Bachelor and bachelorette parties — low-key, plays well with a beer in hand
  • Backyard birthday parties — kids and parents both
  • Weddings — particularly during cocktail hour while the wedding party is taking photos
  • Church festivals and Christmas markets
  • Brewery and restaurant patios — Friday night activations, pay-to-play
  • Senior living communities — patient audience, low-mobility friendly
  • HOA block parties — and we have a great twist on this one further down

You can run it pay-to-play (charge a few dollars per round), free-with-admission, or as part of a fundraiser with sponsored holes. Comfortable capacity is 18 to 36 active players at one time across the course.

The Fundraiser Math (Read This If You Run a PTO or Nonprofit)

This is where mini golf stops being entertainment and starts being a fundraising line item. Run the numbers with us:

A 4-hole standard rental costs $200. ($50 × 4)

Sell those 4 holes to local sponsors at $150 each. That's $600 in revenue. You're already $400 ahead before a single player tees off.

Now stack on top:

  • Player tickets or punch cards — $5 per round, 100 players = $500 more
  • Prize donations from local businesses — best score, lowest score, hole-in-one drawing, even a "worst putter" award (people love these — it's a low-stakes reason for a business to donate a $25 gift card)
  • Custom hole obstacles — sponsors can provide their own themed obstacle. A duct cleaning company supplied actual duct sections at one event. A coffee shop could sponsor a hole with weighted coffee cup obstacles. A donut shop could ask for a 3D-printed donut obstacle in their brand colors. We can fabricate custom pieces in-house if you want to go bigger.

A pro tip we always pass along: ask your sponsors to put a small sign at their business that reads "Proud sponsor of the mini golf course at [Your Event]." Or even better, send them a photo of their hole — or the winner standing next to it — that they can post. That sponsor relationship gets easier to renew next year because they have something to show for it.

For a small organization, an event like this can clear $800–$1,500+ in profit on a single afternoon.

What Day-Of Actually Looks Like

We hear this a lot: "How much hassle is this going to be?" Answer: very little, because we do the work.

  • We deliver, set up, and tear down. A 3-hole setup needs us on site about an hour before your event. A full 18-hole takes about 2 hours of setup time.
  • No power, no stakes, no anchoring for single-day events.
  • The office calls you before the event to walk through final details.
  • Optional event staff. If you want a person to run the station, we offer trained event staff at our standard hourly rate. They'll keep things moving, manage the line, and help with prizes if you've got a fundraiser angle.
  • Multi-day rentals are available — common for festivals or week-long camps. Pricing is case-by-case.

A few things customers commonly forget: ramp access (we can't always make a 90-degree turn through a tight handicap door because the units are 8 feet long), overnight protection (if it's outdoors at your house, we'll ask you to bring units inside if rain is in the forecast), and space planning, covered next.

Throughput and Space Planning

Space matters. Each unit is 8 feet long, and you need roughly 4–5 feet of player space behind it. So 10 holes need about 50 feet of usable run. A full 18 needs closer to 100 feet for simultaneous play.

A bowling-alley analogy helps: when one person is bowling, the lanes next to them are usually paused out of courtesy. Same here. You can have every other hole active at the same time, but if your holes are too tight, you'll create a slow-moving line. The fix is either more space, fewer holes, or scheduled tee times in 3-minute increments for high-traffic events.

Two players per hole is the sweet spot. Foursomes sound efficient but they create dead time — you've got three people standing around waiting their turn while one person is putting, and kids especially will wander off after about 90 seconds. If you've got 60 people at your event and a 9-hole setup, expect each player to take 25–35 minutes to complete the course.

Creative Use Cases Most People Don't Think Of

  • Wedding cocktail hour. While the wedding party is off taking photos, your guests have something to do besides stand around. We can set it up before the ceremony and tear down after.
  • HOA block parties — decorate-your-own-hole edition. We drop the holes off the day before with each unit's dimensions, residents decorate their hole however they want, the whole neighborhood plays each other's holes, and you award prizes for best decoration. Run it as a Halloween or fall block party and it gets even better.
  • Putt-and-stroll on park paths. Place holes along a walking trail. Each hole has a unique obstacle and an interesting fact about the park or local nature. A nature walk and a round of golf in one.
  • Brewery, winery, and restaurant patio rotations. Outdoor-patio venues are perfect — guests can stroll with a drink and play a hole. Friday-night activations, pay-to-play, or just a free draw to keep people on the patio longer.
  • Senior living communities and special-needs day programs. Patient audience, low-impact, great for an afternoon. Pairs well with our foam parties or other low-mobility-friendly games.
  • Real estate open houses for a higher-end listing. Single-hole pickup, set it up in the backyard, and turn a "come look at the house" into "come hang out at the house."

When Mini Golf Is Not the Right Call

Most rental companies won't tell you this. We will, because we'd rather you book the right product than be disappointed.

Don't book mini golf if:

  • You've got 400 kids at a school field day. The throughput math doesn't work. Rent one of our obstacle courses for $350–400 instead.
  • Your audience is mostly very young children who can't walk well, or mostly seniors with severe mobility limitations. There are exceptions (senior communities can work great), but as a default mini golf rewards a crowd that can stand and move comfortably for 20–30 minutes.
  • Your crowd has zero patience. This is golf. Even the "putt putt" version requires waiting your turn.
  • You don't have the space. See the space planning section above.

Why The Dunk Tank Company vs. Other Options

  • Aluminum frames — stronger, more durable, look better than plywood units that get dinged up after a season.
  • Customizable hole count. Rent 3, 9, 18, or anything in between. Most rental companies sell you a fixed package.
  • Custom colors and themed obstacles — match your school colors, your wedding palette, or your sponsor's brand. We do in-house metal fab and 3D printing.
  • One truck, one invoice, one delivery fee. If you're already renting tables and chairs, a bounce house, or a dunk tank from us, mini golf rolls into the same delivery.
  • Cross-promotion for partner events. Fundraiser, chamber event, ribbon cutting? We promote it on our social channels. A permanent course can't do that for you.
  • Honest scoping. If mini golf isn't right for your event, we'll tell you and recommend a game or Nerf arena that is.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to rent a mini golf course?

Our portable mini golf rents at $50 per hole for standard holes and $66 per hole for specialty holes. Three-hole minimum for delivery. A 9-hole setup with standard holes is $450; an 18-hole setup is $900. Single-hole pickup is also available.

How far in advance should I book?

The earlier the better — summer weekends fill up fast. We can sometimes pull off quick turnarounds (book Tuesday for a Thursday event) if our calendar allows. For a guaranteed date, two to four weeks ahead is a safer plan.

Do you set it up, or do I?

We deliver, set up, and tear down. You don't touch a thing.

Does it need power?

No, not for single-day events. The LED lighting runs on internal batteries. Multi-day rentals get on-site chargers.

Can it be used indoors?

Yes. Gyms, banquet halls, fellowship halls, indoor sports facilities — anywhere you've got the floor space. Indoor is the move for fall and winter events.

What if it rains?

We try not to set up in active rain — aluminum and standing water aren't friends. If you've got a unit overnight at your home, we'll ask you to bring it inside if storms are coming. We'll work with you on rescheduling if the forecast looks bad.

How many people can play at once?

Comfortable capacity is 18–36 active players across the course. Two players per hole works better than foursomes — less dead time, more fun.

How much space do I need?

Roughly 4–5 feet of run per hole. 10 holes need about 50 feet of usable space; 18 holes need closer to 100 feet for simultaneous play.

Can I customize the holes?

Yes. Custom colors to match your event, sponsor-supplied obstacles, even custom 3D-printed or metal-fabricated pieces for sponsor activations.

Do you serve my area?

We serve Genesee and Lapeer Counties in Michigan, including Flint, Flushing, Swartz Creek, Grand Blanc, Davison, Burton, Fenton, Linden, Lake Fenton, Mundy, Rankin, Mount Morris, Lapeer, Imlay City, Millington, and surrounding communities.

The Good Kind of Stroke

Here's what we actually believe about this: in a world that keeps getting more separated, mini golf is a shared experience. Families play together. Friends play together. A bachelor party plays. A grandmother plays with her grandkids. A whole café staff plays at lunch.

It's a low-impact, low-pressure way to put a group of people in the same spot, doing the same thing, laughing at the same bad shots. That's increasingly rare. And it's worth booking for.
